Quadrille Ball 2018 Save The Date

Dear Friends of the Quadrille,

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful summer in New York and around the world.
We are excited to announce the date of the Quadrille Ball 2018:

The 58th Quadrille Ball will take place on Saturday, February 3rd,
at The Pierre Hotel

Thanks to funding from the Quadrille Ball 2017, the Germanistic Society of America (GSA) is able to support 23 students from American and German universities. This includes four GSA funded Fulbright PhD candidates from the U.S. – more than ever before. They will conduct their research at German universities. The Fulbright Fellows are:

– Kyle Karinshak, the recipient of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation Scholarship which was generously donated by the Krupp Foundation. A doctoral student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Houston, he conducts his research on Sulphur Poisoning of Automotive Catalysts alongside Germany’s leading scientists at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT).

– Renu Singh, a doctoral student in Political Science at Georgetown University. She will work with faculty at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin on investigating the potential of creating policies to deal with epidemics and public health problems like obesity.

– Paul Babinski, a doctoral student at Princeton University focusing on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s West-East Divan. He will conduct his research at the leading archives of German literature in Marbach, Weimar, and the Johannes-Gutenberg Universität in Mainz.

– Emily Hanink, a doctoral student in Linguistics at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on anaphoric expressions and she will work with faculty at the Humboldt University, Berlin, a leading center of linguistic research both in Germany and internationally.

In addition, the GSA funds intensive language classes at Humboldt University Berlin for 14 Columbia University students, and awards Bridge Stipends to five German Fulbright students who are finishing their Master Programs in the U.S.

THANK YOU for supporting these promising young researchers through your donations!

The Ball Committee, Junior Committee, Alumni Committee and the entire Quadrille family are looking forward to welcoming everyone to a successful new Quadrille season!

Many révérences,
Paulina Simkin
