Introducing the Quadrille Guest of Honor 2019

Guest of Honor

We are delighted to announce the 2019 Guest of Honor:
Martina Hund-Mejean, Chief Financial Officer of Mastercard Worldwide, has graciously accepted our invitation.

Thank You

As preparations for the 2019 Quadrille Ball are going into full swing, we want to thank all of you who made the 2018 ball such a great success. With the proceeds of the 58th Quadrille Ball, we are able to support twenty-six graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at American and German universities and German teachers in their studies.

Meet some of the New Stipend Recipients

Jennifer Hewitt, a doctoral student in Engineering at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, will work at the Max Planck Institute for the Biology of Aging in Cologne. Matthew Hall, Ph.D. candidate in Modern History at the University of California, San Diego, will work at the Institute for Social Movement at Ruhr University, Bochum. These two fellows were chosen in collaboration with the German and U.S. Fulbright organizations.

The German Department of Columbia University selected sixteen students from twenty-four applicants to attend a four week long intensive German language instruction course at the Freie Universität, Berlin. Living and learning in Berlin is a life altering opportunity for the young participants.

Together with the University of Heidelberg, we awarded three stipends to non-native German teachers and instructors to attend a professional development course in Heidelberg. This cooperation began in 2015, when the university’s president, Dr. Bernhard Eitel, first donated stipends for this purpose as that year’s Guest of Honor. He has generously continued his support.

In addition, the Germanistic Society of America will grant five Bridge Stipends to German students pursuing master’s degrees in the U.S.
