Guest of Honor

We are delighted to announce the 2020 Guest of Honor:
Andreas Fibig, Chairman and CEO, International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. and Chairman of the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. New York, has graciously accepted our invitation.

Meet some of the New Stipend Recipients

Your ball ticket or donation supports the Germanistic Society of America’s scholarship program for outstanding American and German students.

We are proud to introduce three of the 23 scholarship recipients funded this year. These three are PhD candidates, who were selected through the rigorous application process for Fulbright Scholars:

Brenna Norton-Baker, University of California, Irvine, chose the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, Hamburg for her PhD research. She is working on visualizing cataract formation through ultrafast nanocrystallography technology to better understand cataracts, a disease responsible for half of all blindness worldwide.

David Vanier, an anthropology-student at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, is spending the academic year at the Vogt Institute for Brain Research at Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf. For his PhD studies, he is analyzing the neuroanatomy of primates to trace the evolution of the brain region responsible for memory in humans. His scholarship was generously funded by the Mejean Family Foundation.

Neha Thomas, a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, is doing her doctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Stuttgart. She is working on improving the control for upper-limb prostheses to help with specific tasks amputees struggle with daily. Neha’s scholarship was donated by Mastercard.

Thanks to the generous support from our Quadrille guests, sponsors and donors, the Germanistic Society of America was able to fund 20 additional scholarships in 2019:

  • Twelve students from Columbia University attended intensive language and cultural classes at Humboldt University.
  • Five German master program students, who study at U.S. universities with a Fulbright scholarship, received a Bridge Stipend to finish their programs.
  • Three non-native German teachers from U.S. universities and high-schools received specifically tailored training in continuing education courses at Heidelberg University.

You may purchase your Quadrille tickets online with a credit card at https://quadrilleball.org/tickets/ or by mailing a check to Quadrille, PO Box 1325, New York, NY 10163.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 60th anniversary Quadrille Ball on February 1, 2020!
